LinkedIn: Nobody Likes A Desperado

August 20, 2020

People that reach out on LinkedIn and then send an automated DM promoting themselves need to consider this…

This approach is equivalent to old school cold calling. And it stinks of desperation. Not only is this approach self-focused and transactional, it erodes trust and credibility at light-speed!

If more members continue to apply this method it will mean more genuine members will stop accepting requests from people they don’t know directly. Surely that defeats the purpose of LinkedIn in the first place?

Nobody likes a desperado.

So what do we like?

Let’s start with people that take a genuine interest in us and our business and come from a place of contribution first. People who are interested in getting to know us. Not in a creepy way, but in a commercial way that makes sense.

Always Be Closing is dead. Try Always Be Contributing instead!

Slow down. Be interested. Invest first. If you are genuinely interested in helping others you will need to understand them deeply first. Again, this takes time.

LInkedIn is not a pick up joint.

The harsh reality is, if you have true value and runs-on-the board to support that over time… you wont need to chase strangers on LinkedIn – they’ll be chasing you.
